The Flowers You Don’t See Growing

The first summer I tried growing flowers, I made the same mistake nearly every beginner makes.
Every morning, I’d step outside looking for proof that something was happening.
I’d check the soil.
Touch the leaves.
Wonder why nothing looked different from the day before.
After a week, I started questioning whether I’d planted them correctly. Maybe the seeds were bad. Maybe the soil wasn’t rich enough. Maybe I wasn’t meant to be someone who could grow beautiful things.
Then one morning, almost without warning, tiny green shoots appeared.
Not because they had suddenly decided to grow overnight.
They had been growing all along.
Just where I couldn’t see them.
Life with God often feels the same.
We pray for patience, yet the circumstances testing our patience make us think nothing is changing.
We ask for wisdom, but it arrives quietly through ordinary conversations, difficult decisions, and lessons we didn’t know we were learning.
We long to become stronger, kinder, more faithful people, yet growth rarely announces itself with applause.
It happens beneath the surface.
In the prayers no one hears.
In the forgiveness no one applauds.
In the choice to begin again after yesterday didn’t go as planned.
Not every season produces visible blossoms.
Some seasons are devoted entirely to strengthening the roots.
And roots are never wasted.
If today feels ordinary…
If you wonder whether you’re making progress…
If your prayers seem to disappear into silence…
Remember the flowers.
The most important part of their growth happened long before anyone admired their bloom.
Perhaps yours is too.
📖 Scripture
“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
— Galatians 6:9 (NIV)
🌸 Closing
Growth isn’t always visible.
Sometimes the most beautiful transformations happen where only God can see them.
Keep watering the life He’s given you.
The bloom will come.
With grace,
